The Scripps Central Desk is interested in energetic, forward-thinking copyeditors-page designers for production of its western newspapers. This person will create bold pages and lively headlines while ensuring accurate copy for the Abilene (Texas) Reporter-News, Corpus Christi (Texas) Caller-Times, Redding (Calif.) Record-Searchlight and Wichita Falls (Texas) Times Record News, Kitsap (Washington) Kitsap Sun and Ventura (California) Ventura County Star. Applicants need strong communication and teamwork skills and unwavering attention to detail. They should be solid under pressure and committed to deadlines. Applicants also need to embrace the challenge of finding efficiencies in producing seven papers at once. A minimum of two years daily experience is preferred. The Central Desk is run by E.W. Scripps and pays competitive salary with excellent benefits. It operates in Corpus Christi, Texas, which sits on the coast of the Gulf of Mexico, about three hours southwest of Houston and two hours south of San Antonio. The Central Desk won 12 design/editing awards for 2011 work at the highly competitive Texas Associated Press Managing Editors contest.
